Serendipity: a SakuAtsu Illustrated Fic Zine

ABOUT
Are you a creator who wants to write or draw for SakuAtsu? Or an enthusiast of the SakuAtsu pairing who wants to enjoy a book full of illustrated fic? This zine is for you!

'Serendipity: a SakuAtsu Illustrated Fic Zine' is an unofficial fan zine dedicated to the pairing of Sakusa/Atsumu. We are aiming for collaboration between artists and writers to complement each other's pieces.

This zine will be SFW and for-profit. Profits will go towards zine production and contributor copies; what is left will be split among full contributors and mods.

Information here will be updated regularly, so please check back for any changes! You can also follow our Twitter & Instagram to stay up to date.

FAQ

[Regularly updated; check back for more]

Q: Will there be guest contributors?

A: Yes, there will be! They will be announced at a later date.

--

Q: Will applications be conducted blindly?

A: Applications will not be conducted blindly. We are a smaller mod team, and would like to have all hands on deck for judging, rather than dedicating someone to scrub apps. We will have standardized criteria for judging apps.

--

Q: This survey is for information purposes only right? Are we required to participate or buy if we ever change our minds? (Although this is really interesting because SAKUATSU hnggg!!)

A: Yes, this is for information purposes only! You’re not at all obligated to participate or buy, although we would be thrilled if you decide to :)

--

Q: What will the length of fics be in the zine? If I'd like to apply as contributor, are published works the only thing I can put into the portfolio, or are WIPs ok?

A: It depends on the final contributor count, which will be determined by our interest check. Fewer writers means more pages for each one, while more writers means less pages, as we do have to keep in mind production costs. Currently, we believe the fic limit will be capped at around 2k-2.5k, but stay tuned for updates.

WIPs are okay, but at least 1 of your submissions will have to be a finished product within the word count, so we can see your ability to tell a story within the word limit.

--

Q: Do you know how much it will cost?

A: We don’t have an accurate cost estimate yet at this stage, as we will need more details such as page count and types of merch. We will update you with this info when it is available.

--

Q: If we sign up for more than one role, are we able to be accepted for both or no? :o

A: We'll be judging art and fic separately, so it's possible to be accepted for both!

--

Q: I was wondering if it would require a longer creation period?

A: We currently have planned a creation period of approximately three months, plus extensions if necessary.

--

Q: Are you taking guest suggestions?

A: We already have guests in mind, but we’ll take suggestions into consideration!

--

Q: Are you sure three mods can handle it?

A: We’ve worked together in a professional capacity for a while, and we work well together. If we feel that we need more hands on deck then we will bring more mods on board, but for now our mod team is set.

--

Q: How will you select candidates?

A: We’ll have standardized criteria for judging applications, and categories will include (but are not limited to) spelling, grammar, sentence/paragraph structure, plot development, etc.

--

Q: If we choose to be an artist and merch artist do we have to do full body poses or can it be chibi art?

A: Merch art can be chibi art, but we would prefer full art for page art.

--

Q: What support is there for creators new to zines?

A: Mods will conduct concept checks near the start of the creation period and multiple check-ins throughout to support contributors. We’ll be available for questions and will work with you if there are any issues. Mods Ess and Mich are also providing beta services to the writers.

--

Q: Could you explain more about the merch system?

A: In terms of production, we will give specs and templates to the artists if required (e.g. charm templates). Merch artists will draw it, and then we’ll order it.

In terms of purchasing, we will have different bundles available (e.g. zine only, zine + merch). We’ll have more information about the different bundles later down the line.

--

Q: Would the pinch hitters have to come up with their own ideas if contacted or do they have to work with the already existing idea of the original writer that dropped out? Thank you for your answer in advance!

A: If a writer drops out before the midway point of the creation period (tentatively March 1st), they can choose to not allow the pinch hitter to use their fic idea, in which case the pinch hitter would come up with their own. They can also allow the pinch hitter to work with their existing idea.

However, if a writer drops out after the midway point, they must give up their existing fic idea and allow the pinch hitter to use it. This is because, at the midway point, the artist illustrating for the fic would already have some work done, and it would be unfair to ask the artist to start over on their piece. We hope that makes sense!

APPLICATIONS

GENERAL INFO
Anyone applying to be a contributor must be 16 years or older and access to a PayPal account so that they can receive earnings if there are profits after sales, unless they opt to not receive any payments.

Applicants should also have a Discord (or be willing to make a Discord account) as communications will take place in a Discord server. Important communications will also be emailed.

You may apply for as many roles as you'd like, and you may be selected for more than one role. However, if you are selected as both writer and page artist, you will not be illustrating for your own fic.

We will accept 8-10 fic writers, 9-11 page artists, and 4-5 merch artists. We have 3 guest writers and 3 guest artists lined up and they will be announced at a later date.

We encourage at least 1 piece with a background, but it is not required.

Merch artists will not be required to collaborate with fic writers.
